A new compact scanner from Phoenix Inspection Systems is ideal for single-channel TOFD or phased array line scans and has the option of pivoting wheels to record both B and D scans.
The Swift can operate on 3D pipe up to flat plate and provides high-performance inspections even in difficult-access areas. The spring-loaded, waterproof wheel encoder ensures accurate position recording for defect sizing of welds, while the two sets of rubber tyred magnetic wheels attach it firmly to ferritic surfaces, allowing it to roll smoothly guided by just one hand.
The single-direction Swift is fitted with a brake to fix the scanner’s location at any point, allowing the operator to let go of the scanner partway through an inspection. The dual-direction version has innovative pivoting wheel units that allow its use for both B and D scans.
The Swift scanner is tool-free for simple operation and carries any Phoenix standard probe-holding toolposts for either TOFD or phased array inspections. The TOFD toolposts incorporate a user-friendly probe lift and lock feature to raise the probes for quick adjustments and to change the wedges.
Paul Ryan, Sales Manager at Phoenix Inspection Systems said: “The Swift scanner offers a smooth and stable motion to ensure exceptional signal quality and high-resolution data recording, in a compact user-friendly unit.”
