Composite Inspections

Composite materials are commonly used in aerospace, marine and wind energy structures due to its excellent strength-to-weight ratio. Often comprising of fibres and polymer resins, composite can be a challenge for some NDT inspection techniques. However, due to the absence of magnetically reactive and electrically conductive properties, ultrasonic waves are the best method to inspect composites. The ideal NDT technique for composite materials is phased array ultrasonic testing (PAUT) – an efficient method in terms of detection and imaging of defects and at faster speeds than conventional ultrasonic testing.
