Overview

The MagBug is a narrow magnetic wheeled motorised buggy, which can be used on a range of geometry that might otherwise require multiple scanners.

Originally designed in conjunction with Alstom, MagBug is a multipurpose unit and can carry a variety of payloads. The MagBug also features high torque and accurate position repeatability making it suitable to provide the circumferential drive. In particular the unit had been applied to a number of steam turbine applications including the inspection of straddle root blade fixings, welded disc heads and welded rotor welds.

MagBug will carry a payload of up to 6.0kg at speeds of up to 40mm/s making it ideal for multiple probe inspection configurations. Its narrow profile means it can be used in gaps between the dics of just 56mm and the interchangeable wheels allow it to be configured to clear seal grooves or to follow disc profiles.

The MagBug module is one-directional and primarily designed to drive scanners along pipes, however, supplementary components can be added to provide both axial and circumferential movement. For example, a ring attachment allows scans to be carried out around the pipe, providing 360 degree surface coverage.
